See this class of lift in action. The video below shows installation, real-world operation, and the kind of shop this lift belongs in.
A mechanical bar extends outward from the platform's lower edge when elevated above 6 feet. If the machine approaches a floor opening, drop-off, or dock edge, the bar contacts the hazard before the wheel reaches it — automatically halting drive before a tip-over can occur. Non-defeatable by the operator.
Rough-terrain models cannot raise above a set height unless all four outriggers confirm positive ground contact. The interlock is mechanical — not software-only. A single outrigger without firm contact blocks elevation above the threshold, preventing elevation on an unstable base.
Full-height (43 in) guardrails with mid-rail and toe board meet OSHA 1926.502 and ANSI/SAIA A92.20 fall protection requirements. The self-closing entry gate uses a positive slam-latch that cannot be accidentally kicked open. Platform D-ring anchor for personal fall arrest (on most models).
On-board sensors monitor platform weight continuously. Overloading locks out the lift function and displays a fault code — the machine will not raise until load is reduced to within rating. This protects the scissor mechanism from overload and prevents the stability limit from being exceeded.
At 43 feet, the 4394RT is the largest class of rough-terrain scissor lift before you move to articulating or telescopic boom lifts. The scissor platform advantage holds at this height — 102 x 60 inches is a substantial work deck for multi-person crews. For roofing work with parapet access, the 36-inch fold-out extension is often the deciding feature. If your application requires positioning over obstacles or working around corners, a 40-45 foot articulating boom becomes the better choice — booms offer horizontal outreach that scissors cannot provide.
